BRADENTON, Fla. — Water’s Edge of Bradenton welcomed new Executive Director Penny L. Smith on Monday.

“It’s very exciting,” said Smith. “I’m looking forward to the move and meeting the residents, staff and people. And I’m looking forward to experiencing the hospitality of the south.”

Smith comes to Bradenton after spending nearly eight years as the Executive Director of Kensington Place, a 126-unit independent/assisted living retirement community in Columbus, Ohio. Before that, she was the Director of Marketing for National Church Residences in the Home Care/Hospice division.

Her past experience with National Church Residences made the new role at Water’s Edge of Bradenton all the more enticing for Smith.

“Having the chance to come back to National Church Residences was a huge draw,” Smith said. “It’s a great organization that fits my core values perfectly.”

Smith is a native of Haslett, Michigan, and a graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. She has over 13 years of professional experience in the healthcare field, including four years as a retirement counselor in Vernon Hills, Illinois.

Water’s Edge of Bradenton joined the National Church Residences family in April 2014. The 108-unit facility has been chosen as the People’s Choice Award winner for Favorite Retirement Community and Assisted Living Facility by the readers of the Bradenton Herald the last three years in a row. It is currently in the midst of a $15.9 million, 80-unit expansion due to be completed in Spring 2016

Ground broke on the facility’s expansion on Dec. 19, 2014. The new three-story building will include 80 units and 77,589 square feet and will feature a floor dedicated to Memory Care.

“It’s appealing that we’ll be offering new services that will allow the residents at Water’s Edge to stay in the community,” said Smith.

Water’s Edge of Bradenton is a 37-acre facility located at 2015 32nd Avenue West in Bradenton that features a large, heated pool, fitness center, movie theatre, auditorium, game and card rooms, Wellness Resource Center and beauty shop.
